Full-Time Job Opportunity - Sewage Treatment Plant Operator
The Village of Perry is seeking applications for a full-time, Sewage Treatment Plant Operator to work at the Village’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The duties of this position include:
- Starts and stops pumps, motors, air compressors, and related machinery and equipment
- Makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment
- Records readings from meters and gauges
- Treats and disposes of sludge
- Takes samples of sewage for testing
- Makes necessary tests for control of plant operation
- Keeps a log of plant operations and related records
- Performs custodial duties in connection with maintenance of buildings and grounds
Preferred knowledge and skills
- Possession of a Grade 2 Wastewater License or higher
- Good knowledge of the practices used, and the equipment required in the operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Pump station knowledge
- Working knowledge of the principles and applications of physics, chemistry and bacteriology as applied to sewage treatment and disposal
- Skills in the operation and repair of pumps, valves, and related mechanical and electrical equipment
- Ability to read, understand and record data from gauges, scales, and meters
- Ability to make routine laboratory and field tests for control of plant operation
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Alertness and dependability
Minimum qualifications include:
- High School Diploma
- Valid Driver’s License
- If applicant does not currently possess a valid Grade 2 Wastewater License or higher, it will be a requirement to achieve a license during their employment
BENEFITS: This position is full-time and benefit eligible including NYS Retirement, paid time off, and health, dental, and vision insurance.
SALARY: $20.04 per hour with an increase to $21.29 after 6 months (additional $.25 per hour if Wastewater License is current)
SCHEDULE: The Wastewater Treatment Plant operates seven days per week. This position will be required to work 40 hours per week Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm. Alternate weeks will require this position to work 4 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday with a pass day taken Monday-Friday.
