Wastewater

The Village of Perry Wastewater Treatment Plant on Water Street Road treats sewage from both the Village of Perry and the Town of Castile.

The Village of Perry is working on a $13.2 million dollar capital improvement project that includes infrastructure repair, a new headworks building and a variety of other improvements at the Waste Water Treatment Plant, including possibly composting.

The Village of Perry is regulated by the Department of Environmental Conservation, Region 9 and carries a SPDES permit to discharge into the Silver Lake Outlet and then on to the Genesee River.

Per village code, it is unlawful to deposit grease, garbage with particles greater than 1/2 inch in dimension, animal guts or tissues, paunch manure bones, hair, feathers, ashes, cinders, sand, metal, glass, straw, grass clippings, rages, wood, plastic, tar asphalt, processing fluid, or lubricating oils into the sewer system.

Wastewater Treatment Process

1. Water Collection 
Wastewater flows mostly by gravity to the water treatement plant

2. Headworks Screening
Large objects like sticks, leaves, and trash are removed

3. Primary Clarifiers
Large particles settle out of water with gravity

4. Trickling Filters
Water passes through secondary filters to remove smaller particles

5. Biotower Filtration
Living microorganisms treat the water, removing organic media from it

6. Secondary Clarifiers
This filtration produces effluent (liquid) and solids (via anaerobic digester) that are pressed into a cake material that can be land applied or sent to a landfill,

7. Effluent Discharge
Treated water is returned to the creek.
